Altar Egos

Episode Guide:

Michael and the Bluth family have gathered at the courthouse to discuss George Sr's upcoming trial. The prosecutors had offered a plea bargain, but Barry Zuckerhorn hasn't had a chance to review it because he was busy getting back into the dating world. Lucille announces that he should take the plea because her husband needs a woman in his life. Unbeknownst to her, he does have one - an undercover FBI agent posing as Cindi Lightballoon, a woman who watches George Sr's Caged Wisdom series of inspirational tapes and has fallen for him. Unfortunately for the government, she has fallen for George Sr and reveals that they don't have enough of a case and he can fight them in court. With this knowledge, he informs Barry and the family they're going to trial. Michael takes the binder and said he'd be reading the plea to make sure they're doing the right thing.

At the house, Lindsay discovers that Maeby is failing 9th grade. When Lindsay had been in this situation, Lucille had ignored her. She and Tobias hire George Michael to tutor his cousin in a display of parental competency.

That evening, Michael and Gob are at the bar near the courthouse, where Michael is attempting to read the plea and failing because his brother is enouraging him to have a one-night stand. Michael bumps into a woman named Maggie and they being talking. As Gob had told Michael that "lawyer" is Latin for "liar," Michael decides that it's OK to lie to Maggie and introduces himself as Chareth Cutestory, Maritime Lawyer.

Back the model home, Maeby and George Michael are reviewing her most recent test, which she failed utterly by answering every question incorrectly. She tells George Michael that she'll pay him $200 for him to just fill in the right answers so she can return it. She hands him six $20 bills and walks off. George Michael's perplexed as to where the money came from.

The next morning, Michael is at Maggie's, wondering how he can break things off with her and escape. He's in the process of starting to walk away when he notices her seeing eye dog, Justice. Putting two and two together, Michael realizes he can't just dump a blind woman.

At the prison, Lucille catches George Sr in the middle of canoodling with Cindi through the prison fence. She is understandably upset and storms off, leaving her husband standing there with his jail mistress.

Michael arrives back at the model home, disappointed that he wasn't able to make a clean break. Turns out that he's in much better shape that Gob, who ended up getting married that evening through a series of escalating dares. Later that day, Michael meets Maggie in the park for a date and pretends to be interested while reading the plea as they walk. Figuring out something's amiss, Maggie asks him what's wrong. He puts the binder away and focuses on her.

Back at the Orange County Prison, Cindi tells George Sr that she has knowledge that he will soon be released. Due to her infatuation with the Bluth patriatch and a mistimed blooper Caged Wisdom reel, she now believes that faith is fact.

George Michael is in the hallway at their high school when he runs into Maeby. Once again she hands him six $20 bills and tells him she'll pay him $100 to write an essay for her. She dashes off, telling him that she's on her way to a fundraising event for a girl named Surely. George Michael finds this odd as Lindsay is a fan of fundraisers. This means that Maeby should hate them.

Michael never had a chance to read the plea thanks to Maggie and Barry is in the same boat as he was busy handling George Sr and Lucille's divorce. George Sr tells his wife that Cindi's an FBI officer and was looking for information and is forgiven. He then tells Barry and Michael that they should take the plea. Even though neither of them have read it, they decide to go with it anyway.

It's when he sees Maggie walking into court and sitting at the prosecutor's desk that Michael realizes he's made a bad mistake. Maggie's the most feared prosecutor in Orange County for the simple reason that her blindness wins her sympathy with jurors, judges, and even the opposition on occasion. Michael informs Barry and Gob that Maggie's his one night stand and is told by his brother to string her along. Barry says that this can help Michael win the case. Recess is called by the judge.

At the high school, George Michael attends Surely's fundraiser and finds out that "Surely" is Maeby in a wheelchair.

Michael drops by Maggie's house to touch base with her and she tells him she's glad that recess was called because somebody's kept her busy. She hands Michael the Bluth case file and asks for his opinion as an attorney. Michael mouths "Oh. My. God." and the episode ends.
